Alumnus Supports and Enhances Patient Advocacy

“Patients need to know that they can speak up and question the care they are receiving,” said Herbert E. Eglie, 1957 graduate of the College of Arts and Sciences. “We need more [health care professionals and staff] who are willing to get involved and work together to see that patients are receiving the very best care.”

Herbert Eglie, former food service director for 32 years at Aramark (formerly ARA Services), has committed $1 million to The Ohio University Foundation to establish the Herbert E. Eglie Patient Advocacy Fund, which supports the College of Health Sciences and Professions efforts to devote more time and resources in training students to be devoted patient advocates. New Facility Open for Physician Assistant Program

The first thing the inaugural class of students in the College of Health Sciences and Professions (CHSP) Physician Assistant program noticed when they began orientation last May was that everything on the Dublin Campus was as new as they were. partnered with government entities and private venture capital firms to create a pipeline for new hightech companies in the region.

They would be the first to break in the lounge chairs, populate the 135-seat auditorium, train on the cutting-edge equipment, and finally, witness delicate medical procedures, as well as teachers? and fellow students? presentations and notes, on giant screens that rivaled those at their favorite sports bar. ?This space was designed totally around our curriculum,? said James Zedaker, MPAS, clinical assistant professor and founding director of the Physician Assistant (PA) program.
