LEWIS Ohio Athletics Charitable Remainder Trust Benefits All
Wealth management combines areas of investment, tax, and estate planning into a holistic roadmap that serves to best suit you, your family, your estate, and your legacy. Having created his own wealth management practice in 1974, alumnus Lew Shore, who received his Bachelors of Business Administration in 1970, knows that his Charitable Remainder Trust (CRT) to OHIO Athletics reaps enjoyable benefits not only for himself, but more importantly, his beneficiaries.
A (CRT) receives cash or property from your donation, makes payments for a life, lifetimes, or term of years, and then distributes the remainder to The Ohio University Foundation. Having a broad knowledge of estate planning, Lew believes that a CRT was the best way to achieve his philanthropic goals.
"The CRT has been the greatest investment and tax tool. The most important thing about estate planning is to first and foremost have charitable intent. This is the only gift vehicle where you can give money to beneficiaries that are important to you, and you end up with more income," Lew says.
Lew's father taught him that if you have the ability to give, then to do it: The benefits will come back to you in a million ways. With Lew's CRT, this is especially true. Given his lifelong love of sports, he felt it was only natural to direct his giving to OHIO athletics. Lew's gift allows him to provide support for athletics scholarships, facilities, and student athletes.
Hindsight being 20-20, attending OHIO shaped Lew's career path, giving him reason to give back. "I choose to give to Ohio University because I had the opportunity to grow here; it provided the foundation that began my career," he says.
Lew went on to work for NCR Corporation in marketing and sales, using the knowledge and experience he gained at OHIO. In 1974, he put together a team of financial planning specialists. This team was the base of his current wealth management practice, Shore Morgan Young Wealth Strategies. He's never looked back.
"It's a very rewarding business," Lew says of his work. "I'm very fortunate to be doing what I do."
